With its 50 years of existence, and since its inception, HICSS continuously looks for publication venues to maximize readership, and increase citations for our authors.

From 1968 to 1989, HICSS proceedings were published by Western Periodicals Company, California, a then rather popular publishing house for technical conferences. As the conference grew in importance, HICSS worked with the IEEE Computer Society for its proceedings. In the 1990’s, a significant number of HICSS papers were related to technical fields such as electrical engineering, computer science, and telecommunications. As the field evolves more and more towards computer application and information systems, the majority of HICSS authors today come from a broader spectrum of disciplines with an increasing focus on interdisciplinary work.

To celebrate the unprecedented success of HICSS as the longest conference in its field, we join the global trend inspired by MIT’s DSpace digital library project. Starting with HICSS-50, all HICSS publication will be archived and disseminated at no cost to all readers worldwide through ScholarSpace. A complete set of HICSS proceedings will also be made available in the digital library of the Association of Information Systems (AIS).

With ScholarSpace’s open-access, digital institutional repository, benefits for the HICSS research community are:

  • Worldwide visibility with top search results in Google and other search engines.
  • Free and quick distribution of HICSS publications leading to higher readership and citations.
  • Research materials related to HICSS publications such as Powerpoint presentations, additional appendices, professionally managed by ScholarSpace staff.
  • Statistics regarding download to each of the authors.
