Launched in 2010, HICSS Women’s Network serves as an informal network focused on facilitating the advancement of women as leaders in HICCS and in the profession and contributing to overall HICCS creativity and innovation. The Women’s Network includes innovative programming including small, group brainstorming around scenarios; panels with distinguished leaders/journal editors in our field, and the provision of informal guidance for HICSS as an organization.

With more than 60 attendees including friends of the HICSS Women’s Network, participants shared their professional experiences as well as barriers experienced in our fields. A number of issues and opportunities listed below were discussed.

  • Strengthening career strategies for women in higher education and in the private sector
  • Ensuring equality and diversity
  • Obtaining tenure and promotion
  • Dealing with hiring and negotiating salaries
  • Advocating for women in our field
  • Managing work-life balance challenges

The HICSS Women’s Network continues to ensure a space for community, best practices, and mentoring within our larger association.

HICSS Women’s Network includes a Linked-In site, “HICCS Women Who Know” with over 300 members—all with a strong commitment from the HICSS leadership and the Women’s Network conveners to ensuring an organizational climate that is welcoming and inclusive of diversity and that fosters excellent leadership and continuing contributions of women and underrepresented minorities in our field.
